My investigation found that oil spills are a threat to all animals that live in or near the ocean, as well as plants, coral, shorelines, insects, larva and bacteria. All of these are threatened and in danger of dying when they live in oil pollution. Animals die from the oil exposure, and eating the oil. The eggs they lay die or are killed in the clean-up efforts. They also die because the oil effects their ability to control their body temperatures. That means we are effected too. For example, when there are problems with the ocean, fisherman cannot fish, we do not have that food, they do not have jobs and the economy hurts too.
Reading more information, I found that there are many people working on ways to clean-up oil, with hair, fur, chemicals and machines. Based on my research, we need a combination of natural ways to remove the oil and not hurt the animals and land. I added a page to this website where you can donate and find ways to help.
The best thing a kid can do is love nature, play in nature and take care of nature.
I am still wondering:
Does oil change the way animals act if they eat it? Can oil make animals really sick, forever? Are there better ways to clean-up the oil spills? Are there better ways to prevent oil spills? Are there safer ways to treat the environment?
